Liverpool coach Sipke Hulshoff should have been sent off against Tottenham, Keith Hackett says.

The Arne Slot ally was booked following Lucas Bergvall's winning goal in the 1-0 victory on 8 January in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

The ex-PGMOL chief admitted that arguments from the Liverpool dugout were fair after the young Swedish wonder avoided a second yellow card for a rash challenge before scoring the winner.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News after footage from Sky Sports Football on X, Hackett believes Hulshoff should have picked up a second yellow after confronting the fourth official aggressively.

"Given the frustration of a poor decision, you can understand why the Liverpool coaching staff were unhappy with the referee not issuing the Spurs goal scorer a second yellow.

"However having received a yellow and then venting his ongoing frustration with the fourth official, he completely overstepped the mark and should have been red-carded.

Liverpool figure should be punished by FA after Tottenham

"Having received a yellow, the coach was fortunate not to receive a second yellow for his outburst at the fourth official."

Spurs and the Carabao Cup has seen immense drama already this season, from the last-gasp winner at Coventry to the possible FA investigation after the win over Manchester United.

Ange Postecoglou will just be happy to get the win, with a game at Anfield between them and the final at Wembley, which is long overdue.
