Dominic Solanke was the hero as Tottenham reached the UEFA Europa League semi-final by beating Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 in Germany.

Postecoglou was fighting for his job in Germany, with Daniel Levy expected to sack the Australian if Spurs had lost against Frankfurt.

Therefore, the 59-year-old's decision to leave Dejan Kulusevski on the bench at Deutsche Bank Park on Thursday (17 April) was a risky one.

However, despite Spurs supporters' frustrations with the lineup, it was Tottenham who went into the break with the lead after James Maddison won a penalty, which Dominic Solanke converted in the 43rd minute.

After his omission from the starting lineup, Kulusevski was introduced before half-time with Maddison unable to continue, seemingly still feeling the effects from Frankfurt goalkeeper Kauã Santos' foul on the midfielder, which resulted in the penalty.

Tottenham were good value for their lead at the break, with the visitors the better team in the first half.

And they defended resolutely in the second half to secure their biggest win of the season and save Postecoglou's job at Tottenham.

Johnson disappoints v Frankfurt

Johnson is Spurs' top scorer this season with 16 goals in all competitions. However, he didn't have any impact on the game in Germany against Frankfurt.

The Welshman saw very little of the ball, and when he did have possession, he failed to make an impact.
