Jamie Donley has not earned the right to be considered for Roberto De Zerbi's Tottenham Hotspur squad.

The young forward will have been hoping to make an impression on the Italian manager.

He would have liked to show him that he can step up and secure a spot in Spurs' senior ranks next season.

However, his showing in Northern Ireland's 1-0 win over Guinea on 4 June surely proved the opposite.

De Zerbi will have surely had an eye on his performance, and he did little to convince the boss.

Jamie Donley flops despite Northern Ireland win

Some observers have called for Donley to be handed an opportunity, but he did not justify that stance on the international stage.

The Spurs gem completed 75 per cent of his passes, and failed to create a chance for his teammates, per Fotmob.

He had two shots in the contest, with only one testing the goalkeeper, for a 50 per cent shots on target ratio.

Roberto De Zerbi has obvious Alfie Devine solution to Tottenham's number one issue

Three of his 37 touches came within the opposition box, and he made three passes into the final third.

The 21-year-old attempted to help out defensively, with one clearance and two recoveries, but he had a miserable time in his ground duels.

Donley won just three of 11 of his battles for the ball, for a 27 per cent success rate.

Those stats against a lower-quality opposition will surely leave the boss with reservations about his suitability for the senior side.

Will Donley get a chance to impress Roberto de Zerbi?

The attacker should still be handed his chance in pre-season, before the manager decides what should happen, in terms of his future.

If he stays, then he will compete for the striker spot, with the likes of Dominic Solanke and Richarlison.

He likely won't win the starting berth, but he should prove to be a solid bench option if given a shot.

The other option is another loan away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but surely he would get unsatisfied the longer he is forced to seek temporary moves.

Eventually, he will want his time in the spotlight, and if Spurs can't offer it to him, the Northern Irish star could seek a permanent exit at some point.
