Bryan King believes James Maddison should start for Tottenham against Liverpool despite concerns over his attitude.

The ex-Spurs scout feels that the England international doesn't look happy to be in North London at the moment.

It comes after the 27-year-old was benched against Chelsea as Spurs were beaten 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Thursday (2 May).

And King - speaking exclusively to Tottenham News - has called for Maddison to show his quality against the Reds after a tricky few weeks.

"There has been so much uncertainty in midfield across the last three games," King said.

"I think Ange Postecoglou will bring Maddison back in against Liverpool because he does have quality and Spurs need some quality.

"The only question is will Maddison show that quality, or will he continue to play as he has done across the last few matches, because at the moment he doesn't look happy."

James Maddison must silence the critics when Tottenham play Liverpool

Maddison's performances have been under intense scrutiny as of late.

Being benched against Chelsea will only increase the pressure on Spurs' number ten, who must now respond on the pitch.

Postecoglou was well within his rights to leave Maddison out at Stamford Bridge and the former Leicester City ace must now react in the right way.

Tottenham
James Maddison has struggled in a Tottenham shirt as of late.

He can either sulk and feel sorry for himself, or he can rise to the occasion and prove that he is ready to rediscover his early-season form.
