James Maddison called out after what he did for Tottenham v Manchester United

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison was not shy in his reply to Roy Keane in the 1-0 win against Manchester United on Sunday.

The former Republic of Ireland star has been far from complimentary about the 28-year-old in the past week but it is safe to say he answered perfectly.

The England international was able to take advantage after Andre Onana spilt a Lucas Bergvall strike with less than 15 minutes gone in North London.

His celebration certainly caused a stir as it appeared to be a direct nod to Keane as the number 10 raised his finger to his lips.

This was the former Leicester City man's first Premier League goal since December but he still showed the arrogance he is so well famed for.

With that being said, given that Spurs are sitting as low as 12th right now, this sort of celebration could be seen as ill-advised by some, especially in response to someone with the winning experience of Keane.

This is the view of former Brentford boss Martin Allen who believes Maddison needs to focus on himself rather than comments from pundits.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Allen said: "Roy Keane is an excellent pundit in my opinion, I like the way he delivers his comments.

"I often believe he says the right thing, I agree with his comments about James Maddison to an extent.

"He's good when his team are dominating but playing in big games away from home, I don't think you want Maddison in your team.

"With regards to celebrating a goal by aiming it at Roy Keane, I don't agree with that. Celebrate your goal with your supporters and enjoy it. Can you imagine thinking about what Roy Keane thinks as a footballer? I don't get that.

"All you should be worried about is yourself, you can't be thinking about pundits sat in a TV studio. That isn't for me."

Ultimately, the ex-Manchester United captain wasn't wrong with what he was saying in terms of the Englishman having a lack of impact at times.

Maddison was on positive form against the Red Devils but this campaign this sort of showing has been few and far between.

As a result, there have been some positive comments from the likes of Micah Richards to contrast that of fellow pundit Keane.

The Lilywhites midfielder can't afford to let this go to his head and needs to continue to operate at a top level and prove the Irishman wrong across the rest of the campaign.
