Ipswich Town fans won't be best-pleased with what James Maddison posted minutes after Tottenham won 4-1 at Portman Road.

Ange Postecoglou's side recorded their third consecutive win in the Premier League by thrashing the Tractor Boys on Saturday (22 February).

After his match-winner in the 1-0 Premier League victory over Manchester United on Sunday (16 February), Maddison was a surprise exclusion from the Spurs team to play Ipswich.

However, the Englishman came on in the second half and was able to make an impact as he set up Djed Spence for Spurs' third, which ultimately killed off the game.

And Maddison, formerly of Norwich City, has made sure to aim a cheeky dig at the Canaries' local rivals.

Maddison aims Norwich-based dig at Ipswich after Tottenham win

Maddison will likely be frustrated to have been benched once again on Saturday, with the Tottenham star thought to be unsettled by his lack of league starts in recent months.

However, he showed no signs of this after coming on against Kieran McKenna's side, displaying brilliant footwork before setting up Spence.

The Ipswich fans could be heard booing ex-Norwich star Maddison after his introduction, and the travelling Spurs supporters made sure to sing their midfielder's name louder than usual after Spence's goal.

And Maddison has joined in with the banter, taking to his personal X account after full-time (22 February), to post a picture of himself with Brennan Johnson in which he can be seen pointing at his Norwich tattoo, writing, "Johnson again ole oleeeee. Coyssss" alongside three heart emojis, two of which were yellow and green to represent the colours of his former club.

Tottenham can push on after win v Ipswich

Postecoglou remains under serious pressure after an underwhelming season in North London. Therefore, this win was big for the Australian, even if it did come against a side in the Premier League's bottom three.

Spurs have now won their last three league matches on the bounce and appear to be building some momentum as they continue to get players back from injury.

As a result, confidence among fans will likely be increasing about the possibility of Spurs lifting the UEFA Europa League in May.

However, for now, it is about taking each match as it comes, and Maddison will no doubt be important in the coming weeks.
