Pedro Porro has worked his way up to being an undisputed starter at Tottenham.

Porro showed Thomas Frank during pre-season why he should remain as the first name on the team sheet for the left-back position.

Djed Spence has since established himself at Tottenham as a key player for the present and future. But while he is comfortable on the right side, Spence has played second fiddle to Destiny Udogie, who is sidelined for Spurs due to injury.

This, in large part, stems from how Porro has performed for Tottenham these past couple of seasons. And it now seems that he's continued his strong club form into the international break.

Pedro Porro solid for Spain against Bulgaria

While the Lilywhites' defence has not been so strong in the past. The continued reliability of Porro, as well as the strong Tottenham trio of Joao Palhinha, Cristian Romero and Mikey van de Ven, is set to offer defensive stability this season.

The fullback has been praised for his reliability, and it seems the Spanish press picked up on it during Spain's 3-0 win over Bulgaria.

  • Porro created one big chance for Spain against Bulgaria
  • The left-back won all of his tackles and cleared the ball twice
  • Four out of five of his long balls were accurate while he made three passes into the final third

His performance was hailed as a "solid" and "professional" performance by Sports Dunia on 4 September, who rated it a seven. The outlet added that the defender did not "put a foot wrong" before he was substituted for a "well-earned" rest.

Goal Spain also rated his performance a seven after he made a "crucial block" in the middle of the first half. This deflected a shot heading towards the goal onto the post. Other than that, Porro did not encounter any more problems and maintained a "threatening" presence in the opposition box.

Pedro Porro will have an important role under Thomas Frank

Now that Mohammed Kudus has arrived at Tottenham, Frank's right side is easily his best and most threatening side.

Porro's intrinsic desire to play the ball forwards helps in progression and allows Kudus to create better goalscoring opportunities.

Other than Wilson Odobert, Spurs lack natural left-wing options, which has minimised their attacking threat on the other flank. As such, Porro will need to work twice as hard to help faciliate Tottenham attacks.
