Tottenham are on the lookout for a creative midfielder before the summer transfer window closes.

Following James Maddison's latest injury setback in pre-season, Spurs will be eager to add another player with that creative spark in midfield to Thomas Frank's squad.

Joao Palhinha has been a recent addition to Frank's engine room; however, the Portuguese midfielder is a completely different profile to that of Maddison, with the former Fulham ace at his best when he is breaking up attacks from the opposition.

Jeff Stelling seems to be in favour of Daniel Levy poaching a player from the reigning Premier League champions Liverpool, to help bolster Frank's options.

'He's a terrific player' - Stelling full of praise for Spurs transfer target

Following Tottenham's failure to secure the signature of Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White, it is clear that an attacking midfielder is at the top of their list of priorities.

Liverpool's Harvey Elliott has been a name linked with Spurs, with the 22-year-old seemingly not favoured by Arne Slot.

  • Elliott was limited to just two Premier League starts last season
  • He averaged just 22 minutes per game only managed to accumulate 399 total minutes
  • Reminded everyone of the quality he possesses over the summer after netting five goals in six games as England won the U21 European Championship

Asked on talkSPORT (5 August), if signing Elliott would be a wise move for Spurs, Stelling said: "Yeah, he's a terrific player.

"He's on the periphery at Anfield and deserves more playing time. He's used to life in London from his time at Fulham, so yeah, this is a great shout."

While Spurs are also in the market for reinforcements out wide, bringing in a creative midfielder is an essential piece of business that must be conducted by Levy, especially following Maddison's injury.

Frank could revitalise Elliott's career

Frank has a reputation for significantly improving players, and Elliott could be the next player the Danish manager works his magic on.

Elliott is undoubtedly a very talented player, but at this stage of his career, he cannot afford to be starting just two league games again next season.

The midfielder has proven to be able to cut it at the top level when played consistently, and a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could be exactly what he needs.

Given Maddison's frequent injuries, the path to the starting XI is there for Elliott if he wants to move to Spurs and reignite his career.
