Everton transfer mooted for Oliver Skipp as Tottenham exit claim emerges amid rumours

Tottenham News speaking to Alan Hutton

Alan Hutton joined Tottenham from Rangers in 2008, winning the 2008 League Cup final in just his third game for the club. The former Scotland right-back went on to make 66 appearances in all competitions for Spurs before he left for Aston Villa in 2011. Now a pundit for BBC Sport and TNT Sports, Hutton has also joined Tottenham News' team of experts to react to the latest news emerging from North London.

We’re delighted to welcome former Scotland right-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…

Oliver Skipp is set to be sold by Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window, as Ange Postecoglou looks to change the dynamic of his midfield, according to Alan Hutton.

Crystal Palace are reported admirers of the 23-year-old and were keen to bring him to Selhurst Park on loan during the January transfer window, but he is not expected to be available for transfer this month [The Athletic, 12 January].

However, beyond the end of the season, Skipps' future remains less clear and there have been some suggestions that he could be sold as Postecoglou continues to refresh and add to his midfield options in the summer transfer window.

While Hutton admits that he cannot be certain what will happen to the 23-year-old in the future, he has admitted he wouldn't be surprised to see him leave North London for a team like Everton in the coming months.

"It really is going to come down to who they can bring in," Hutton told Tottenham News.

"You look at the likes of Skipp, Hojbjerg, these kinds of guys, rumours circulate that they may be leaving. Sarr and Bissouma are kind of the mainstays then you've got Bentancur in there, who else are they going to add?

"Are they going to look to change that midfield dynamic? We'll have to wait and see but he obviously gives you something different, he is kind of that Hojbjerg-type, tough tackling and gets about with enthusiasm.

"It just depends on what they're looking for in that midfield set-up. Would I be shocked if he was to leave in the summer? Probably not and I think that kind of Everton, somewhere around there would suit him best.

"But this is crystal ball stuff, we're all just kind of guessing so we'll wait and see."

Skipp has made 15 appearances in the Premier League for Tottenham this season, but only three of those games have seen the 23-year-old named in Postecoglou's starting XI as he has had to settle for a rotational role in the side.

When he has been called upon the Tottenham academy product has managed to produce reliable if not breathtaking displays in the heart of Spurs' midfield, however, it is hard to see him nailing down a starting spot in the team in the near future.

It will be interesting to see where Skipp ends up in the summer, should his time with Spurs come to an end at the end of the season.
