Dominic Solanke may have made a crucial Tottenham Hotspur error with his latest social media antics.

For many Spurs fans, the ghosts of the 2019 Champions League final still live on.

The Lilywhites were on the end of a 2-0 loss with Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi netting the goals for Liverpool as they lifted the European Cup much to the dismay of Spurs fans everywhere.

Now, seven years on and at just the age of 31, the latter has now announced his retirement from football.

The announcement has been shared on the Belgian's various social media accounts, and Tottenham's Solanke has responded to the news.

It is an action that may not land well with many Tottenham supporters, with those old 2019 wounds revisited.

What has Dominic Solanke said to Divock Origi after retirement?

Solanke could be forgiven for sending Origi a message considering they were Liverpool teammates briefly.

However, their paths barely crossed at Anfield. Solanke joined the Reds in 2017-2018, and with his arrival, it sent Origi the other way joining Wolfsburg on loan.

Then, the following season saw the Belgian take Solanke's place in the squad. In January 2019, Solanke was then sold to Bournemouth for £19million.

Despite that short crossover, Solanke has delivered a response to Origi's retirement, commenting two prayer hands emojis underneath the Instagram announcement.

Roberto De Zerbi can't believe his own words as Dominic Solanke faces new trust test at Tottenham

While it may seem innocuous to the forward, it may be an ill-advised comment from the Tottenham striker.

It reopens the wounds from perhaps one of the most heartbreaking days in Tottenham's modern history. Solanke has simply failed to read the room.

Why Solanke's Tottenham career is in the balance next season

While Solanke has been proven as a top Premier League goalscorer, injuries have prevented him from showcasing that in N17.

Ahead of next season, it represents an important moment in his North London career as he looks to finally make his impact for Tottenham.

If it is another season of missing many games, it could see Roberto De Zerbi become frustrated, and an exit cannot be ruled out.

During his time at Spurs, Solanke has averaged a goal every 2.95 games, which is not a terrible return in truth.

However, for a striker whom Tottenham purchased for a £65m total package, a lot more has been expected from him.

Remaining fit must be the goal for the Englishman, and the goals will then surely follow him as they previously have at Bournemouth.
