Djed Spence has made himself undroppable at Tottenham after what he did to Mohamed Salah in the 6-3 loss to Liverpool on Sunday.

The Lilywhites were embarrassed at times by the table-topping Reds at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (22 December).

However, Spence was solid defensively against the best player in the Premier League right now and has surely cemented his place in Ange Postecoglou's starting line-up after deputising for Destiny Udogie.

Spence an unlikely star at Tottenham

The 24-year-old was out of favour at Spurs just a few weeks ago but an injury crisis has forced Ange Postecoglou to use him as a rare makeshift left-back and he is earning shouts for an England call-up.

He did a tremendous job up against the Egyptian despite his team conceding six goals, with two scored by Salah.

The former Middlesbrough man recorded a pass accuracy of 94 per cent and had seven passes into the final third. [Fotmob]

Defensively, he won four of five tackles that he attempted for an 80 per cent success rate, made eight recoveries, three blocks, three clearances and one interception.

In terms of duels, he came out on top in seven of the ten that he contested for a 70 per cent success rate and lost the only aerial duel that he attempted.

If there was one encouraging thing about Spurs performance, it was Spence's display against the red-hot Reds star and Udogie may have a fight on his hands to get his starting spot back.

This is the type of battle that everyone needs to see more of moving forward.
