Dane Scarlett ready for springboard after what he did away from Tottenham

Paul Robinson

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson played 175 times for Tottenham between 2004 and 2008, winning the League Cup with Spurs in the 2007/08 season. Since hanging up his gloves in 2017, Robinson has moved into the world of punditry and can be regularly seen or heard on Sky Sports and BBC Radio 5 Live. Tottenham News is now delighted to present Robinson as part of its team of experts.

Paul Robinson is happy to see Dane Scarlett finally thriving at Oxford United after joining on loan from Tottenham this summer.

The 20-year-old initially struggled to break into Des Buckingham's team, with Mark Harris leading the line, but the on-loan striker now has two goals in his last three appearances for the U's.

After scoring a crucial equaliser in a 1-1 draw with West Brom, Scarlett was handed his first league start of the season and netted against Derby County but could not have the same effect against Sunderland.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: "That's the reason he went out on loan, to get game time and play. Oxford United have had a good start to life back in the second tier after being away for so long.

"They've had a mixed bag of results but they've established themselves well, and he's becoming a part of that. He scored so late on against West Brom in another good result for Oxford.

"It's still early in his time at Oxford but this will do him the world of good and give him a load of confidence. Hopefully, he can use this as a springboard to go on and get more."

Dane Scarlett gets off the mark away from Tottenham

Scarlett has been given few chances to impress at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with only seven senior appearances to his name over the last two seasons.

Dominic Solanke is clearly Ange Postecoglou's first-choice striker after arriving on a £65million deal from Bournemouth, and the manager now has Richarlison at his disposal after his return from injury.

If Scarlett is to earn more game time at Spurs, he will need to score more goals for Oxford United before the 2024/25 campaign comes to an end.
