Biggest 'question mark' over Tottenham is being answered and needs addressing in January - BBC Sport pundit

Tottenham News speaking to Alan Hutton

Alan Hutton joined Tottenham from Rangers in 2008, winning the 2008 League Cup final in just his third game for the club. The former Scotland right-back went on to make 66 appearances in all competitions for Spurs before he left for Aston Villa in 2011. Now a pundit for BBC Sport and TNT Sports, Hutton has also joined Tottenham News' team of experts to react to the latest news emerging from North London.

Tottenham are having their lack of squad depth exposed and must look to address this in the January transfer window, according to former Spurs full-back Alan Hutton.

After going unbeaten through their opening 10 Premier League games under Ange Postecoglou, Spurs head into a crunch clash against Manchester City on Sunday (3 December) on the back of three consecutive defeats - the last of which was a 2-1 home reverse to Aston Villa.

Injuries to key men James Maddison and Micky van de Ven have been exacerbated by suspensions to Cristian Romero and Yves Bissouma has not helped, while the likes of Manor Solomon, Pape Matar Sarr and Richarlison have been among a lengthy list of absentees.

BBC Sport pundit Hutton said it was always a "question mark" hanging over Spurs and now they simply have to bring new faces in during the next transfer window.

Speaking to Tottenham News, he said: "I think it's unfortunate (the injuries and suspensions), it was one game they lost two injuries, two suspensions and the mounting list that they had anyway.

"It was the biggest question mark I had obviously for Tottenham, I think what they've done at the start of the season was outstanding, their recruitment has been great, the manager's been great, everything's been excellent up until that point with the injuries and suspensions.

"The question mark for me was, do they have the strength in depth? And I think this is kind of answering the question that they do still have work to do in terms of obviously recruitment in January to really push them onto that next level.

"So, I think it's something they'll be focusing on, yes get the players back but I think they still need to strengthen."
