Archie Gray has demonstrated to Ange Postecoglou that he might be ready for more first-team opportunities at Tottenham.

Spurs signed Gray from Leeds United this summer in a deal worth somewhere between £25-30million (via Sky Sports News, 2 July).

Despite the relatively sizable price tag, Gray has mostly been used as a squad player this season, a decision which makes sense considering the player is still only 18 years old and this is his first season in the Premier League.

The versatile midfielder has started all of Spurs' Europa League and Carabao Cup fixtures, mostly playing out of position at left-back, even filling in at centre-back.

However, Gray has now showcased to Postecoglou that he might be ready for some more meaningful Premier League minutes after his performance for England's Under-21s in their 0-0 friendly draw with Spain's Under-21s at the Estadio Municipal Ciudad de La Línea on Friday (15 November).

Gray started for the Young Lions at right-back and played relatively well.

As per Sofascore, while the youngster was dribbled past once, he also made four tackles and two clearances. In addition, he won five of his seven ground duels and 100 per cent of his aerial duels (two out of two).

He also showed plenty of quality on the ball, completing 91 per cent of his passes, and also winning a foul for his side. While neither of his two crosses into the box were accurate, there was still plenty for Postecoglou to like about Gray's display, especially considering the England youth international was once again playing out of position.

However, Gray is reportedly keen to stay put in North London (via Give Me Sport, 11 November), and with the news that Rodrigo Bentancur is facing a potential seven-match ban (via Paul O Keefe, 13 November) there could soon be some opportunities for Gray to demonstrate to Postecoglou what he can do in his natural midfield position.

And after his display on the international stage, there is no reason why Gray shouldn't be handed those opportunities.
