Ange Postecoglou must give Archie Gray a chance to prove himself following a stellar Tottenham performance against Southampton on Sunday.

The 18-year-old was deployed at centre-back on 15 December, helping his side to a 5-0 win over the Premier League strugglers, partnering up with Radu Dragusin in defence.

While Gray is naturally a centre-midfielder, he has really played anywhere but that position since emerging at Leeds United and that trend has only continued in North London.

He clearly has no trouble adapting, however, maintaining a 97 per cent pass completion, making three recoveries and two blocks, and winning 100 per cent of his ground duels [FotMob].

Against AS Roma in the Europa League last month, Gray completed 91 per cent of his passes, made two big chances, won 100 per cent of his tackles and won 100 per cent of his ground duels [FotMob].

And that could be exactly where the player is deployed when Spurs face Manchester United on Thursday 19 December, especially following Destiny Udogie's early exit against the Saints.

Archie Gray to keep Amad Diallo quiet in Tottenham v Manchester United?

Amad Diallo, who has already been dubbed "unbelievable" by Dejan Kulusevski [HaytersTV], is currently flying high after scoring the winner against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The 22-year-old run Pep Guardiola's side ragged, mostly occupying the right wing, which would place him directly up against Gray should Postecoglou stick to his guns ahead of the clash.

Diallo is one of United's biggest threats, having attempted eight dribbles against Man City, maintaining a 100 per cent shot accuracy and winning 70 per cent of his ground duels [FotMob].

The upcoming EFL Cup fixture could be a battle of the young stars at Hotspur Way, and Gray's battle with Diallo could be the difference between which team advances in the competition.
