Ange Postecoglou will hand Son Heung-Min new Tottenham role after Richarlison brilliance

Tottenham News speaking to Alan Hutton

Alan Hutton joined Tottenham from Rangers in 2008, winning the 2008 League Cup final in just his third game for the club. The former Scotland right-back went on to make 66 appearances in all competitions for Spurs before he left for Aston Villa in 2011. Now a pundit for BBC Sport and TNT Sports, Hutton has also joined Tottenham News' team of experts to react to the latest news emerging from North London.

Tottenham are likely to continue with Richarlison as their central striker, despite Son Heung-Min's return giving Ange Postecoglou a selection headache, according to Alan Hutton.

The Brazilian has been deployed through the middle while Son has been away at the Asian Cup and perhaps produced his best performance of the season against the Toffees when he scored two brilliant goals to help Spurs earn a point.

However, with the South Korean international now back in North London and fit and ready to play a part against Brighton on Saturday (10 February) it remains to be seen how Postecoglou will accommodate both of his attacking options in his starting XI.

While Son impressed as a number nine earlier in the season, Hutton expects Richarlison to remain in the centre-forward position, with the returning Tottenham skipper instead pushed into a wide role on the left wing.

"It's an interesting one isn't it," Hutton told Tottenham News.

"At this moment in time, Richarlison has to play for me, he's hitting form and he's scoring goals. His two against Everton were brilliant, you could tell he didn't want to celebrate but he actually did want to to celebrate even though he kind of held it in.

"But he has to play at this moment in time so you would think Son would probably go over to the left-hand side and he'd be through the middle.

"It will be interesting to see how they set up when everybody is back fit because now they have options, that's the thing. It's a good headache for the manager to have."

Ange Postecoglou has to start Richarlison for Tottenham

It wasn't too long ago that pundits and Tottenham fans alike were labelling Richarlison a flop and a waste of money, but his performances this season, particularly in the last few weeks have almost made him undroppable currently at Spurs.

In just 15 Premier League starts this term, the 26-year-old has managed to find the net 10 times and lay on a further three assists for his teammates and he now only trails Son by two goals, despite the South Korean starting 10 more games.

It will be interesting to see how Postecoglou manages to accommodate all his attacking talent on Saturday given the number of players returning from injury and international duty, but the Spurs boss should have enough at his disposal to cause Brighton some problems.
