Ange Postecoglou has named his Tottenham starting XI for the EFL Cup clash against Coventry City on Wednesday 18 September.

Spurs travel to The Coventry Building Society Arena in the third round of the cup looking to bounce back from defeat in the North London Derby.

Mark Robins' side will be keen to pick up another scalp off a Premier League club after reaching the semi-final of the FA Cup last season.

It won't be an easy night for Tottenham after coming under fire in recent weeks for their performances in a tricky opening to the campaign.

Spurs confirmed their starting lineup via the club’s official X account (18 September), and supporters would have no doubt been frustrated to see Maddison miss out.

The Englishman has had a tough start to the campaign and could have used this clash as a way to build confidence ahead of facing Brentford.

Maddison looked more like himself against Arsenal despite not being able to effect the game with a goal or an assist.

The 27-year-old did get on the ball and took 69 touches which saw him make 45 passes with a 94 per cent accuracy and five going into the final third, creating two chances in the process [FotMob].

It has to be said that his crossing wasn't as on point with a 36 per cent accuracy after attempting 11 crosses across his 80 minute showing.

His dribbling was a useful way out for Spurs with a 100 per cent success rate but he would have hoped to have completed more than one.

The former Leicester City star was also positive defensively which saw him win four duels, win one tackle and make two interceptions.

There is a chance that he can come off the bench against his former side and make an impact if the clash isn't going how Postecoglou would have hoped.
