Ange Postecoglou could regret benching Lucas Bergvall against Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (24 August).

Spurs kicked their 2024/25 Premier League campaign off with a 1-1 draw against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Monday (19 August).

It was a disappointing result for Postecoglou's side who dominated much of the contest in the East Midlands.

Therefore, the Australian will want to see his players bounce back and claim all three points in their first home match of the brand-new campaign.

Everton arrive in North London having been beaten 3-0 by Brighton at Goodison Park on Saturday (17 August), and Tottenham should therefore feel confident of securing a much-needed victory.

However, Postecoglou's decision to bench Bergvall could end up haunting him.

Spurs confirmed their starting lineup via the club's official X account (24 August), and supporters might have been disappointed to see Bergvall miss out.

Bergvall looked bright when he came off the bench against the Foxes. Considering it was the 18-year-old's Premier League debut, he didn't look out of place at all.

As per Sofascore, the midfielder managed to complete 96 per cent of his passes, with one of those key, and create one big chance despite not coming on until the 78th minute.

In addition, he completed two of his three dribble attempts and provided one accurate cross into the box while also winning five of his eight ground duels and making three tackles.

It was a performance which perhaps deserved to be rewarded with a start, and Postecoglou will have to hope he doesn't regret leaving Bergvall out.
