Ange Postecoglou could regret benching Cristian Romero for the UEFA Europa League clash with AZ Alkmaar at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday (24 October).

Postecoglou's side are looking to make it three wins out of three in the Europa League.

After thrashing West Ham United 4-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday (19 October), the mood among the Spurs squad will be high, even if Postecoglou was left with a "problem" after that match.

Therefore, supporters will be expecting their side to make it seven wins out of eight in all competitions against AZ Alkmaar.

However, a Postecoglou decision could end up costing the team after it was confirmed via the club's official X account (24 October) that Romero had been benched against AZ Alkmaar.

Ange Postecoglou benches Tottenham star Cristian Romero v AZ Alkmaar

Romero played well in the win over West Ham. As per Sofascore, he completed 85 per cent of his passes and made two clearances and four tackles.

He also won four of his five ground duels as well as four of his five aerial duels, with 100 per cent of his crosses into the box accurate.

Therefore, leaving him out against AZ Alkmaar could be risky, especially considering Micky van de Ven has also been benched.

Radu Drăgușin returns to the team after his "stupid" mistake last time out in the competition and will be looking to make amends. He will play alongside Ben Davies, in what could be considered a slightly risky centre-back pairing.
