John Wenham was pleased Ange Postecoglou started Guglielmo Vicario in the 2-1 fourth-round Carabao Cup win against Manchester City.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes it is important that the club's best goalkeeper starts in the cup competitions.

Spurs will play Manchester United in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after beating Manchester City at the same venue on Wednesday (30 October).

And Wenham - speaking exclusively to Tottenham News - wants to see Vicario start once again.

“Fraser Forster did well in his most recent appearance against AZ Alkmaar,” Wenham said.

“However, if we’re going to take the cup competitions seriously, the decision to pick our best goalkeeper is vital.

“Therefore, I was really pleased to see Postecoglou name Vicario in goal against City. However, the Italian did have one shaky moment where he came rushing off the line, but luckily he was bailed out.”

Guglielmo Vicario starts as Tottenham get past Manchester City

Forster was hailed for his performance as Spurs beat AZ Alkmaar 1-0 in the UEFA Europa League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday 24 October.

However, the Englishman remains the club's second-choice goalkeeper, with Vicario the clear number one.

Therefore, if Postecoglou wants to bring an end to Spurs' trophy drought, starting Vicario in the Carabao Cup seems like a no-brainer.

Tottenham are just three wins away from lifting that trophy. As a result, there are no excuses for Postecoglou to not go all out and try and win the competition.
