Ange Postecoglou exit verdict shared at Tottenham amid Liverpool speculation

Tottenham News speaking to Alan Hutton

Alan Hutton joined Tottenham from Rangers in 2008, winning the 2008 League Cup final in just his third game for the club. The former Scotland right-back went on to make 66 appearances in all competitions for Spurs before he left for Aston Villa in 2011. Now a pundit for BBC Sport and TNT Sports, Hutton has also joined Tottenham News' team of experts to react to the latest news emerging from North London.

Alan Hutton admits that he would be "very surprised" to see Ange Postecoglou leave Tottenham Hotspur to take over as Liverpool manager at the end of the season.

Jurgen Klopp surprisingly announced that he would be leaving Merseyside at the end of the season, calling time on a career at Anfield which has seen him win everything there is to win in the English game, including the Premier League and Champions League.

A lot of the conversation has surrounded who will be following the German at Anfield, with Postecoglou one man who has been repeatedly linked with the switch to Liverpool following his impressive start with Tottenham.

While Hutton can admit that the Liverpool job would be hard to turn down, he doesn't believe that Postecoglou would be the type of manager to jump ship, especially at such an early point of his project in North London.

"I'd be very surprised if that was to happen," the ex-Spurs defender told Tottenham News.

"But I understand why he's been mentioned because he's come down and he's hit the ground running, he's turned that team around instantly with the brand of football that he plays. He ticks a lot of the boxes.

"For him to leave Tottenham so soon when he's in the building process of doing something on his own there, why would he jump ship?

"I can't see it happening, I don't think he's that type."

Postecoglou won't ditch Tottenham for Liverpool

While he has had his critics since arriving in England, Postecoglou has managed to transform Tottenham and make them not only one of the Premier League's best sides but also one of the most exciting to watch, with James Maddison the centre-piece in their team.

The Australian is building a Spurs side that wants to challenge for titles and he has had no issue broadcasting that to the world. His recruitment of players like Timo Werner indicates he is targeting immediate success with an eye on the future with signings such as Brennan Johnson.

Klopp's vacant position at Liverpool will be enticing for managers all around the world, but Postecoglou has a project in North London at the moment and it feels unlikely that he will drop that for a chance at silverware on Merseyside.
