The rise and fall of ‘Angeball’ at Tottenham Hotspur
Ange Postecoglou had quite the right at Tottenham Hotspur during a two-year spell in charge between 2023 and 2025. Playing his patented ‘Angeball’, the amiable Australian came flying out the blocks as his Spurs side played a high-octane brand of football that delighted the Lilywhites‘ supporters. However, a drop-off in form would see Tottenham finish outside of the Champions League places but, crucially, do enough to earn a spot in the Europa League. Despite a hugely underwhelming domestic campaign, in which Tottenham would finish 17th in the Premier League, Spurs would go on to win the Europa League in a memorable night in Bilbao. It was not enough to save Postecoglou’s job, though, as he was consequently replaced by Thomas Frank at Hotspur Way.
Ange Postecoglou: How does his Tottenham Hotspur record compare to elsewhere?
During his two-year spell at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Postecoglou had a win percentage of 46.53 per cent. The highest of his career was at Celtic, where he had a 73.45 win rate. After Spurs, he of course had an ill-fated stint at Nottingham Forest, where he failed to win any of his eight games. Here is a list of Postecoglou’s career win rates.
Ange Postecoglou delivered on Tottenham Hotspur promise
Postecoglou once famously declared that he always wins a trophy in his second season. At the time, it was used as a stick by some in the media to beat the Australian with. But, as he kept stressing, it wasn’t statement of confidence, it was a statement of fact. And it was a declaration that he was able to back-up at Tottenham Hotspur too, as he ended a 17-year wait for a trophy by leading the Lilywhites to Europa League glory in May 2025 thanks to a 1-0 win over Manchester United in Bilbao. It was the continuation of a trophy-laden career. You can see all of Postecoglou’s career honours to date below.
