When Tottenham fans can expect Xavi Simons back and firing after injury update

Xavi Simons is facing a lengthy recovery from an ACL injury at Tottenham.

The Netherlands international was forced off in April as Spurs secured a 1-0 win away to Wolves.

He went down just past the hour mark and it was clear that something was very wrong straight away.

The 23-year-old was stretchered off and hasn't been seen since as he faces an extended period on the treatment table.

That is certainly a blow for the Lilywhites, even after their productive summer so far.

A boost has now emerged for Simons as he speaks out on his recovery ahead of the new campaign.

What has Xavi Simons said about his recovery?

There is always a fear with such a big injury that complications can occur with rehabilitation.

That has been the case for someone like Dejan Kulusevski, who hasn't featured since a meeting with Crystal Palace in May 2025.

It doesn't appear that Spurs are risking a repeat of the Swede's problem with Simons.

That comes after the attacking midfielder spoke out on his recovery to The Sports Agents podcast on Thursday.

When asked if he is "exactly" where he wants to be in his rehab, he said: "Yeah, especially when they tell you how long this injury is.

"For me, the first two days were really hard. But after that, I told to myself as well, don’t put the pressure really, really high to myself, and I'm seeing every day improvement, and that's something that makes me really happy."

That will surely be music to everyone's ears in North London, with a return for early 2027 still looking the most likely outcome.

That may seem a while off - and it is - but it means De Zerbi will have a new attacking weapon to call upon for the second half of the campaign.

What will Simons add to Tottenham when he returns?

It was far from a dream first season in the Premier League for Spurs' number seven.

He was meant to be a difference-maker for the Lilywhites, but scored just two goals and assisted five in the league.

That wasn't good enough in truth even if his underlying numbers prove his quality.

Simons did create an average of 1.74 chances and took 2.15 shots per 90, while also completing 1.43 dribbles.

That all points towards his creative flair, which is only made better by his 7.63 defensive contributions and 6.04 duel wins per Premier League game last time around.

He will be keen to get back and better his 11 goal involvements across all competitions.

Tottenham fans will be excited to get him back and it is good to see how grounded he is being in the midst of such a frustrating situation.
