Tottenham fans warned not to expect Kulusevski return anytime soon after injury

Dejan Kulusevski may be set for a lengthy layoff in the Premier League after picking up an injury at Tottenham in May.

Spurs will miss the ex-Juventus attacker at the start of the 2025/26 campaign, as they face Burnley at home on 16 August.

Thomas Frank could potentially be without the Sweden international for a considerable period as the North London outfit's fans have been warned not to expect his return anytime soon.

Kulusevski is expected to miss far more than just the game against Burnley at Tottenham due to his fitness issue, Alasdair Gold says.

The football.london journalist revealed that the 25-year-old is still nowhere near returning to action after undergoing patella surgery last season.

With the Swedish forward continuing to recover from his knee injury, Frank may not have him available for selection anytime soon.

Gold wrote in football.london (27 July): "Kulusevski is nowhere near returning following his patella surgery in mid-May. Frank warned not to expect the 25-year-old back for the first Premier League game of the season against Burnley next month. The Swede is expected to miss far more than that as he continues his rehabilitation work on his right knee."

With Morgan Gibbs-White's transfer from Nottingham Forest falling through, the Tottenham manager will hope Kulusevski can return as soon as possible.

James Maddison will be key for Tottenham during Kulusevski absence

Frank will arguably have to rely on James Maddison to pull the strings in the midfield during the ex-Juventus star's absence.

Spurs have signed Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United, and he's a player the former Brentford boss will hope hits the ground running.

Tottenham are coming off an embarrassing 17th-place finish in the Premier League last season, and fans will expect major improvement from them.

Daniel Levy certainly needs to play his part and build a competitive squad in N17, with the North London outfit set to play Champions League football.

Spurs should look to make further additions to their squad and look at potential alternatives after missing out on Gibbs-White.

Tottenham are clearly willing to spend money this season and should consider adding more depth to their team after struggling under Ange Postecoglou in the previous campaign.
