Tottenham attacker Richarlison is unlikely to require surgery after his calf injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert that his not being selected in the Brazil squad for Copa America, potentially due to his fitness, suggests that it could be a Grade 3 tear.

The 27-year-old is expected to return for the start of pre-season having been ruled out by Ange Postecoglou for the final game of the season.

Discussing the state of play with Richarlison's setback exclusively with Tottenham NewsDr Brara doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said:

"With him not being named in the squad for Copa America, probably due to his lack of fitness, I imagine this has to be a higher severity case, most likely a Grade 3 tear.

"Surgery is quite rare in these cases but calf injuries are very sensitive and troublesome due to the constant demand placed on them, especially if the player has already suffered from them.

"That being said, I would expect him to be ready for pre-season."
