Radu Drăgușin concern emerges at Tottenham after recent injury news

Bryan King

Bryan King is a former professional goalkeeper who spent six years as a senior scout at Spurs and 28 years in total in first-team scouting roles. Bryan King is worried about Radu Drăgușin covering for Micky van de Ven at Tottenham.

The ex-Spurs scout doesn't think the Romanian looks comfortable playing as the left-sided centre-back.

And it looks as though Cristian Romero is set to join the Dutchman on the sidelines, which means Drăgușin is likely set for an extended run in the team.

However, despite the 22-year-old being backed to "explode", King - speaking exclusively to Tottenham News - has highlighted a potential weakness.

“The team is important here, three weeks ago Spurs had nearly every player fit,” King said.

“Suddenly they don’t have Romero or van de Ven. Drăgușin has come in, and he’s had a couple of half-decent games.

"However, I do worry about him playing on the left-hand side. He seems very reluctant to use his left foot.

“I’ve noticed him get caught a few times trying to get the ball onto his left foot, rather than clear with his right. That worries me a little bit.”

Radu Drăgușin struggling as the left-sided centre-back at Tottenham?

Drăgușin is much more effective playing alongside van de Ven, rather than Romero.

He is a more suitable replacement for the Argentine, suggesting that Spurs might need to think about recruiting cover for van de Ven in the upcoming transfer windows.

However, Drăgușin's weakness as a left-sided centre-back likely won't be an issue for Ange Postecoglou in the UEFA Europa League against Galatasaray at Rams Park (7 November) or in the Premier League against Ipswich Town at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (10 November).

If Romero is to miss both of those games, Ben Davies will likely come in and play on the left, which would allow Drăgușin to play in his more natural position on the right.
