James Maddison has had an awful last few weeks ahead of the new 2025/26 campaign.

It has now been confirmed that Maddison has suffered an ACL injury and will be out for the majority of the new campaign.

This happened in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle United in pre-season, where the England international was stretchered off.

Now, it is expected that Maddison will miss eight months of action at a minimum as he looks to quickly return to the field.

Maddison claims ACL reconstruction surgery was successful after ‘cruel’ injury

Maddison has consistently struggled with injuries since his move to Tottenham.

The England international has missed numerous important matches, including the Europa League final last season.

However, this ACL injury is no doubt the biggest so far, and will not only affect his time at Spurs, but also his international career with the World Cup on the horizon.

Maddison has already missed almost a quarter of Tottenham's competitive matches through injuries

Now, Maddison has shared an update on his Instagram on 12 August about his recovery while also thanking those who have supported him after this “heartbreaking” news.

He said: “Lowest low I’ve ever had. Heartbroken at the fact that this injury has occurred at this time in my career. With the Super Cup tomorrow, the Premier League season on the horizon, the exciting Champions League campaign & it being a World Cup year for England, it all feels very, very cruel but nevertheless the ACL reconstruction surgery was successful.

“To all my close friends and family, your support and love means absolutely everything to me.

“To those of you who have gone out of your way to message on social media platforms in support of me and my recovery even when we don’t know each other personally, I appreciate you all more than you’ll ever know so thank you.

“And lastly to those of you who doubt, hate & mock. You truly motivate me to levels I didn’t know I had inside of me so again, thank you.

“See you all on the other side.”

Maddison’s Tottenham career over?

Eberechi Eze has been heavily linked to Spurs in recent days, with the England star usually playing in a similar role to the Tottenham star.

  • Tottenham have now reportedly made contact over a potential deal for Eze
  • Crystal Palace value their star man at £60m+

Therefore, if Eze is signed and hits the ground running, it is hard to see how Maddison gets back into the starting XI.

Hopefully, the England international is able to return to the sidelines as soon as possible and prove to everyone that he still has a future at the London club.
