Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven is still not yet at 100 per cent as he's returned from his hamstring injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert has explained why the physios were treating him for five minutes before he came off the bench against Bournemouth on 9 March.

That contest ended 2-2 with the Dutchman playing 29 minutes.

Van de Ven may not play the full 90 minutes against Chelsea

Spurs are expected to be extremely cautious with the 23-year-old centre-back given his recurring hamstring injuries.

Discussing the state of play with van de Ven exclusively with Tottenham NewsDr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, shared his verdict.

"I can understand why the Spurs physios were working for five minutes on his hamstring before he came off the bench against Bournemouth," he said.

Van de Ven has missed most of the season for Tottenham

"It tells me that they’re trying to take every precaution possible to help him get back on his feet and not have another injury recurrence.

"In this case, it was using some manual treatment to help loosen the hamstring up before he comes on.

"Behind the scenes, he will continue to be getting treatment – whether that’s manual or with assistive devices – along with ongoing strength and conditioning and close monitoring.

"He injured his hamstring in 2024 and then again in January, so they’ll be extremely cautious as he's not yet at a 100 per cent and will need a consistent run of games to get there."

While Dr Brar has not stated that he is not ready to play the full 90 minutes against Chelsea on 3 April, given the intensity and physicality of the game, it makes sense to be careful with his minutes.

Tottenham must send van de Ven to a specialist centre during the off-season

Given the Dutchman's recurring hamstring issues, it makes sense for Spurs to send him to a specialist centre overseas to recover.

This will give the specialists a better chance to see what's bothering him and take invasive action if needed to resolve the issue.

Hopefully, he's free from all his fitness issues next season and can contribute to a successful campaign.
