Micky van de Ven has missed most of the season for Tottenham through injury and was brought off early against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday.

Van de Ven started as Spurs beat AZ Alkmaar 3-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 13 March to book their place in the last eight of the UEFA Europa League.

However, the Dutchman was unable to complete the match, replaced by Archie Gray on the hour mark in North London, with Glen Hoddle spotting an injury "worry".

And ahead of Spurs' clash with Fulham in the Premier League at Craven Cottage on Sunday (16 March), Postecoglou has provided an update on van de Ven.

Postecoglou provides van de Ven clarity at Tottenham

Van de Ven is expected to miss out for Tottenham against Fulham as Postecoglou makes changes.

However, the Australian has confirmed that the centre-back hasn't suffered a fresh injury. Speaking ahead of the clash with Fulham, Postecoglou revealed that there were no new injuries to report from the AZ Alkmaar clash, and that everyone had come through the match unscathed.

This includes van de Ven, who is currently having his minutes managed.

The defence looked much stronger with van de Ven in the side. Therefore, the 23-year-old remaining fit will be crucial if Spurs are to lift the Europa League.

Van de Ven will be important for Tottenham in the Europa League

Spurs' Premier League season is effectively over.

The North London side are sat 13th and therefore look unlikely to qualify for Europe based on their league position.

As a result, the focus is entirely on the Europa League, and Postecoglou will need his best players fit for that competition. Therefore, it would make sense to leave van de Ven out against Fulham to avoid the risk of the defender reinjuring himself.
