Tottenham will extend Japhet Tanganga contract as Daniel Levy looks to cash in with summer sale

Alan Hutton has admitted that he would be surprised if Tottenham didn't extend Japhet Tanganga's contract beyond the end of the season, but expects him to be sold during the summer.

The 24-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan in the Bundesliga with FC Augsburg but didn't make a single appearance for the German side before dropping into the Championship for the remainder of the campaign with Millwall.

Tanganga's contract at Tottenham comes to an end at the end of the season, but Postecoglou's side do have the chance to extend his deal in North London by a further twelve months, should they wish to do so following his spell at The Den.

Hutton expects Spurs to activate the clause but doesn't believe that the versatile defender's future lies at Tottenham, admitting he expects Tottenham and Daniel Levy to cash in on Tanganga during the summer transfer window.

"I think they will extend it because they won't let him go for nothing," Hutton told Tottenham News.

"I'd be very surprised if they didn't because why would you let somebody go for nothing when there is a deal already in place to put on another year?

"So I would think that they'll probably do that then look to obviously move him on as they've got reinforcements at centre-half. I know he can play right-back as well, but probably at this moment in time, it doesn't look like his future is at Tottenham.

"You never know what can happen in football, but I would imagine that they will tick that box for the extra year and then see what they can do in the summer."

Tanganga's last competitive appearance in a Tottenham shirt came all the way back in April of 2023 when he made a three-minute cameo from the bench in a 2-2 draw with Manchester United towards the back end of the season under Ryan Mason.

The 24-year-old has started well at Millwall and played the full 90 minutes in their 1-1 draw with Preston North End and should he continue to impress in England's second tier, a permanent move to The Den can surely not be ruled out.
