Thomas Frank is keen to bring in creative reinforcements at Tottenham, and a recent development suggests Xavi Simons could be his man.

Tottenham are on the hunt for an attacking midfielder after James Maddison's injury-riddled season.

One of the players Spurs have been linked with in this position is RB Leipzig star, Simons.

The Dutchman is considered one of the best young midfield talents in Europe, and Daniel Levy will no doubt be determined to deliver a marquee signing to kickstart the Frank era.

And it looks as though Tottenham could be set to step up their pursuit after a recent development.

Tottenham cool their interest in Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze

As well as Simons, Tottenham have been linked with a move for Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze.

However, with Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski already at Tottenham, the Lilywhites were only ever likely to sign one of Simons or Eze - and it appears as though a choice has been made.

As reported by Ben Jacobs via talkSPORT (27 June), Tottenham have backed off from signing Eze.

The Englishman has a £68million release clause in his contract at Selhurst Park, and it looks as though Tottenham could now be set to put that money toward signing Simons.

This could be an easy way out for Levy, with North London rivals Arsenal also chasing Eze. However, as one of the best midfield talents of his generation, there is no reason to say that Tottenham were not more convinced by Simons, and could now open talks.

Tottenham must pounce for Simons before it is too late

It has been suggested that Simons could be tempted to join Spurs, even if it is only for the short term.

However, there is no doubt that a talent like him will have several other suitors waiting in the wings and ready to pounce at the opportunity to sign him. Therefore, Tottenham should strike while the iron is still hot and make their move for Simons in the next couple of days.
