Tottenham takeover: ENIC exit may be weeks away amid ‘major project’ twist

ENIC’s days at Tottenham may now be numbered as the Qataris have dropped a hint on their plans in the coming weeks.

Currently, ENIC International Limited own 86.58 per cent of the club’s share capital and 70.12 per cent of ENIC’s share capital is owned by a discretionary trust of Joe Lewis’ family.

Daniel Levy and his family own the remaining 30 odd per cent, while minority investors own the remaining 13.42 per cent of the club’s share capital.

Qatar may be weeks away from completing the Tottenham takeover

Qatar have made it no secret that they’re willing to invest billions into sport and make the Middle East the next hub for entertainment.

They have been linked with the Tottenham takeover for weeks amid their tensions in France.

Nasser al-Khelaifi, the president of PSG and the chairman of Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) has an investigation opened against him in the Lagardere affair.

Since 5 February, he has been under indictment as part of an investigation into whether Arnaud Lagardere attempted to influence a 2018 vote in his favor through the Qatari fund QIA, a shareholder in the Lagardere group.

While he’s committed to not withdraw funding from PSG, L’Equipe reported on 1 March that a “major project” is set to be announced in the coming weeks that will not involve France.

The timing of this, given the growing links to Spurs, could mean that they plan to complete a takeover and buy ENIC’s stake in the club to become the controlling owners.

Spurs could see a lot changing behind the scenes if the takeover goes ahead

Levy is holding out for a £3.75billion valuation in case anyone considers buying the club and that certainly is an amount that can be afforded by the Qataris.

Should they actually put the money on the table, what the future holds for the Spurs chairman, remains to be seen.

Tottenham have struggled in the Premier League this season

The Englishman is extremely unpopular among the Spurs fans and has been viewed as the reason for the club’s lack of success on the pitch.

A large percentage of the fanbase would welcome a change of ownership as they have watched other Premier League clubs achieve a lot more once competenent people have taken over.
