Bryan King is shocked that Tottenham haven't already extended Son Heung-min's contract.

The ex-Spurs scout believes the 32-year-old extending his stay in North London would be "positive" for Ange Postecoglou's side, despite recent troubles.

As reported by the Telegraph (4 November), Tottenham plan to trigger a one-year option in Son's contract.

And King - speaking exclusively to Tottenham News - had emphasised just how important the South Korea international is to the club.

“I would’ve thought they would’ve sorted this out sooner,” King said.

“I can’t believe they haven’t already sorted that out. When you have a player of that importance at your football club, of course, you’d want to tie him down.

“I think this would be a very positive step, I’m surprised it hasn’t already been taken up.”

Son Heung-min to extend his stay with Tottenham

Son is the Tottenham captain, and when at his peak, arguably the club's best player. Therefore, keeping him around seems like the right move.

Even if his performance levels do gradually drop over the next year or so as he becomes older, just having a player like that in the dressing room could prove incredibly valuable for Postecoglou.

And it isn't just the forward's footballing value which is of importance to Spurs. Son is arguably one of the club's biggest commodities off the pitch as well.

Thousands of fans from South Korea flood to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium every season to catch a glimpse of their nation's star player, which will of course come as a big boost to the club's finances and Daniel Levy.

Therefore, Son's wages for an extra year will likely be paid off quickly through sales of his shirt, making the decision to keep him around a no-brainer.
