Tottenham share another ‘surprise’ immediately after Daniel Levy exit announcement
Tottenham have been rocked by the news that Daniel Levy will depart from his role as executive chairman.
Levy is a controversial figure at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and has often been blamed for the lack of spending in North London.
Tottenham fans regularly protested his leadership last season, as Ange Postecoglou‘s side finished 17th in the Premier League.
The Europa League title was not enough to save Postecoglou, but it appears like it was not enough for Levy to stay either.

Tottenham ‘surprise’ emerges after Daniel Levy departure
Levy had overseen a disappointing transfer window, where Tottenham missed out on the likes of Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze.
However, they still managed to secure the likes of Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus, as well as Randal Kolo-Muani on loan.
That business was not enough for the controversial figure to stay in his post, it seems.
Respected journalist Henry Winter shared his reaction to the news on 4 September, saying: “Bit of a surprise: Daniel Levy steps down as executive chairman of Tottenham.
He was also surprised by the further news that there will be “no changes to the ownership or shareholder structure of the Club.”
How much of Tottenham did Daniel Levy own?
ENIC International Limited, a Bahamas-based subsidiary of ENIC Group, owns an 86.58 per cent stake in the N17 club.
Levy owns a 29.88 per cent share of those stakes and was appointed to the Spurs’ board in 2000 after the group completed their takeover.
- Levy was the longest-serving chairman in the top-flight
- Appointed to the board in 2000
- The 63-year-old delivered the new stadium in 2019
He is also the managing director of the ENIC Group, holding that post since 1995, as well as being the longest-serving chairman in the Premier League until he departed.
The fact that the statement from the club says there will be no change to the ownership structure suggests that Levy will still have an influence on proceedings.
However, the extent of that remains to be seen, as he is not in his post as executive chairman anymore, so surely will not have the final say on the day-to-day running of the football club.
Many Spurs supporters will be ecstatic with the news, but they will also be left questioning the direction of the club at the moment.
