Tottenham and Newcastle United dragged into alleged controversy abroad
Tottenham and Newcastle United have allegedly been caught up in controversy surrounding Italian club Sampdoria.
In a report for Josimar [22 January], respected journalist Philippe Auclair outlined some strange goings on at the Serie B strugglers.
Samp are owned by three businessmen from Singapore who are said to have deep links to FUN888 – a company who Auclair points out are the official Asian betting partner of Tottenham and Newcastle.
The report outlines how the trio have invested tens of millions into Sampdoria with no chance of being profitable anytime soon.
Tottenham ties to FUN888
Spurs have long been associated with Fun888 and extended their partnership in November 2021, as announced via the club’s website.
As official betting partner, the company’s logo featured prominently at home matches up until recently.
The Asian betting site first made the move into Premier League sponsorship via Burnley, before then striking agreements with Tottenham and Newcastle.
While questions have been raised regarding the links between the Sampdoria trio and FUN888, it must be stressed Tottenham – and indeed Newcastle – have themselves done nothing wrong.

Supporters can be forgiven for losing track of the numerous ‘official partners’ – indeed, it has even become a running joke – but they cannot be blamed for simply wanting to cash in.
Sampdoria are in a sorry state over in Italy, and Spurs fans can rest assured that, even if things to look particularly bleak at Spurs right now, it will never be quite as bad as it is at Samp.
