Bryan King doesn't understand why Tottenham were targeting a move for Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu during the summer.

The ex-Spurs scout claims the club already have one of the Premier League's best left-backs in Destiny Udogie.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (7 September), Dorgu was on Spurs' shortlist this summer. However, talks didn't advance as Lecce wanted between £25-29million for the 19-year-old.

But King - speaking exclusively to Tottenham News - doesn't think the transfer would have made sense.

"I wouldn't have thought it would be necessary to pay that kind of money," King said.

"Not when they already have Udogie, who looks like he could be the future of Tottenham.

"He is only 21 years old, he is a full international, and for me, once he gets himself settled properly he is without doubt one of the best left-backs in the Premier League.

"I have no idea why Spurs would even be considering paying that kind of money for this player. Unless it perhaps means that Ben Davies will be off soon, and this player is cover.

"However, Dorgu has very little experience, he has less experience than when Udogie arrived."

Tottenham keen on signing Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu

While a move didn't materialise this summer, that doesn't mean that Tottenham might not move again for Dorgu.

Should Spurs come in for the Denmark international, it could well spell the end of Davies' time in North London.

The Welshman's contract with the club expires next summer and Spurs could return for Dorgu as they look to sign someone to compete with Udogie.

If they do pull the transfer off, Spurs could suddenly have two very exciting young left-backs on their books.
