Tottenham help cover Mateus Fernandes transfer fee as new sponsor deal announced
Tottenham have now confirmed the club record signing of Mateus Fernandes from West Ham, with many raising their eyebrows at the amount of money spent so far.
The Lilywhites may have finished 17th last season but really aren't messing around this summer.
They have already brought in Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Jan Paul van Hecke, with the Portuguese midfielder now joining them in N17.
The 21-year-old has completed an £85million move from the Hammers as Spurs begin their midfield revolution.
That is a sizable fee for the North London club to spend, given that their previous record was £65m for Dominic Solanke in 2024.
There is a need for Tottenham to bring in as much revenue to cover that sort of deal, especially once £100m Sandro Tonali follows, and their newest agreement will help that.
How much could Tottenham get from Betano sponsorship?
Betting sponsors may be banned on the front of Premier League shirts this season, but Spurs have now announced a gambling sponsor.
Match shirts may not be allowed to feature a betting company as the main sponsor, but the rule doesn't extend to training wear.
That has seen the N17 outfit take advantage of that to bring in Betano as their official training wear partner for the 2026/27 season.
They will also remain as their EU and LATAM betting partner until the summer of 2029.
They replace BetMGM who were previously paying £10m-per-year for their place on the Lilywhites' training kit.
Betano has come in after two seasons as Aston Villa's front of shirt sponsor at a reported fee of £20m-per-season.
It is reasonable to expect Spurs to be paid a fee in the middle of that, if not the same as the Villans, so in between £15m and £20m for the year.
How Tottenham sponsors will help pay for Mateus Fernandes
The North Londoners have become a powerhouse for revenue away from the pitch over the years.
A move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has helped that massively and has attracted new sponsors.
According to their website, Tottenham have 19 sponsors, with Betano set to add to that this summer.
AIA, Nike, Kraken and the new training wear sponsor are likely to be the biggest.
They reported a £277.1m commercial revenue for the financial year of 2025, with Betano's introduction only set to add to that.
That is just one avenue of bringing money in with match receipts, prize money and TV deals all adding to a total revenue of £565.3m.
Tottenham bring in big money and that is only looking likely to grow, meaning that giant signings like Fernandes are possible.
