Tottenham flop who earns £160,000-a-week available for peanuts in summer transfer

Tottenham have signed many players who have gone on to be flops at the London club.

Tanguy Ndombele is perhaps known as the worst signing in Spurs’ history after a then-record move.

While current star Richarlison has received heavy criticism since his move from Everton back in 2022. 

However, the Brazilian is not alone, with many players scrutinised for their displays and labelled flops after a terrible 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

Timo Werner available for under £4 million after failed Tottenham loan

Timo Werner was one of four first-team Spurs players whose departure was confirmed last weekend.

The German international failed to perform at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and only netted three goals in one and a half seasons. 

As a result, Werner was consistently criticised for his displays as he failed to add an attacking threat on the pitch. 

Now, the 29-year-old has returned to his parent club RB Leipzig, where they are already preparing to sell the striker. 

According to Bild (2 June), the German outfit are “desperate” to sell Werner as he has no future at the club. 

RB Leipzig want to cut around 20% of their budget, and with the striker currently on £160k-a-week, he doesn’t fit these ambitions.

As a result, the report states that Werner is subsequently available for around £3.37 million in order to get him off the wage bill. 

Spurs need to learn from Werner mistake 

In truth, Tottenham should never have extended Werner’s loan in the summer. The German only netted two goals in the 2023/24 campaign in just 14 matches.

While he did have some good displays in this period, a goal in every seven matches simply isn’t good enough for Tottenham. 

As a result, Spurs need to ensure that they have learnt from this mistake going into the transfer window. 

The London club cannot take chances on any underperforming players and should only bring in players with proven, consistent quality.
