Tottenham: Fans will be fuming at Daniel Levy as multi-million bonus revealed amid controversy
Tottenham fans will be fuming after the club’s accounts were officially released on 3 April, with chairman Daniel Levy pocketing a lucrative bonus on top of a pay rise.
Levy, as pointed out by football finance expert Kieran Maguire on X, has pocketed £3.581million in the year ending in June 2023, an increase on the previous £3.265million he had received in the previous financial year – as well as a £3million bonus.
This move comes shortly after Spurs had announced season ticket prices would rise by six per cent from last season, as well as the news that concessions tickets for over-65s would be removed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
These developments mean that as well as charging fans more money and exploiting the long-term supporters, Levy is doing so while also further lining his pockets with increased pay and a lucrative bonus.
Tottenham fans will be fuming after Daniel Levy reveal
This announcement comes shortly after fans staged a protest in the home game against Luton, turning their backs on the game in support of the fans who have been affected by the decision to remove concession tickets for over-65s.
The club announced recently that their 2024/25 season tickets had increased in price by six per cent, taking an adult season ticket up to £642 for a young adult and £856 for an adult – prices that for many will be simply unachievable.
These price increases are so high and so frequent that it has been suggested they could drive younger supporters away, with that audience the most affected by widespread price increases across the Premier League.
At the other end of the scale, depending on where you sit in the stadium with many fans wanting to keep a seat they may always have had, prices can rise to £2,367 for adults, and as high as £908 for young adults.
An article in The Times [2 April] called for a league-wide commitment to keeping costs at a manageable level for fans aged 18-24, and while prices may vary from club to club, the overall costs are rising across the board.
Meanwhile, Levy could be collecting over £6million from the club on a year-by-year basis, awarding himself a bonus. Tottenham fans will not be happy.
