Tottenham fans to be furious as Daniel Levy mooted to derail potential takeover
Daniel Levy could make a Tottenham takeover difficult to agree in North London.
Levy’s popularity is arguably at an all-time low among the Spurs faithful, with the 62-year-old being constantly scolded in recent weeks.
Calls have been made for a change of ownership at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with ENIC just as unpopular as Spurs chairman Levy.
With state-of-the-art infrastructure and a London-based stadium, Spurs would no doubt be an attractive proposition for potential investors, despite claims that any takeover could cost as much as £6billion.
However, the asking price might not be the main stumbling block to a takeover in North London.
According to football finance expert Kieran Maguire, Levy himself could be the main stumbling block to any potential takeover.
Maguire said [via TBR Football, 5 February], “I think Spurs are the perfect proposition for any significant investor with cash to burn. All of the investment can go into talent recruitment because Spurs have a 21st-century stadium, so you aren’t diverted by cash going elsewhere.
“The club is in London, so they have the benefits which that brings for a variety of stakeholders in the game. A football stadium is a very good place to do business as you have got the football as the backdrop for the deals that are taking place.
“Really, it is the case that Levy has tried to hold out for too much on deals in the past, however. Clearly, they are still waiting on the naming rights for the new stadium. Then, you have Sir Alex Ferguson’s famous comments about him as well.
“The downside is that if you do go into negotiations, does the prospective buyer end up walking away from the table because of intransigence on the sale side.”
Daniel Levy to derail potential takeover at Tottenham?
If Levy were to prevent Tottenham from being taken over, fans might not let the Spurs chairman back into his own stadium on matchdays.
Besides winning a trophy, a takeover is probably what Spurs fans want above all else. Therefore, if the most unpopular man were to block what would be one of the most popular decisions, it wouldn’t take an expert to figure out what kind of reception Levy would receive.

As a result, if Levy is to make his way to a negotiation table soon, he should keep fans’ opinions of him firmly in the back of his mind.
In other Tottenham news, Levy has been told to sack Johan Lange after an “unacceptable” reveal.
