Tottenham: Daniel Levy will be an unpopular man at Spurs after announcement on Wednesday

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will have done his popularity among Spurs supporters no favours after the club announced that season ticket prices are set to increase for the 2024/25 season.

Levy is not always flavour of the month at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the best of times.

When times got tough last season, chants of ‘Levy Out’ and ‘ENIC Out’ often become the most popular chants among Tottenham supporters both home and away.

Those outbursts have faded this season as Ange Postecoglou has distracted those in attendance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with an attractive brand of football that has the North London side back in contention for a UEFA Champions League place.

Spurs were also incredibly active in the January transfer market, adding Timo Werner, Radu Dragusin and Lucas Bergvall to their ranks while other Premier League clubs hardly spent a penny.

After a positive few months, it would have been easy for some fans to ease off Levy for now, but just when his stock was perhaps rising, the club have made an announcement that will not have sat well with fans.

As per the Tottenham Hotspur Official Website (6 March), the club are set to increase season ticket prices by six per cent next season.

Daniel Levy set for more scrutiny at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

In a statement published on the website, Spurs explained the reasoning behind the club’s decision to increase their prices, writing: “Football is not immune to the rising costs of goods and services across the board and we continue to look at all options to minimise ticket price increases, while absorbing the vast majority of costs.

“In the five years since the stadium opened in April 2019, there has only been one Season Ticket price increase of 1.5 per cent.

“There has, however, been a significant increase in matchday costs outside of our control such as utilities, rates and consumables, along with the need to continue to operate on a sustainable basis. For 2024/25, Season Ticket prices will increase by six per cent.”

Considering the prices at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have only previously been raised by 1.5 per cent, an increase of six per cent is an incredibly steep rise.

Tottenham already boast some of the most expensive ticket prices in Europe, and this rise will now mean that their cheapest season ticket on offering for an adult supporter is £856, with the most expensive seat in the house reaching a staggering £2,367.

While Spurs continue to thrive financially, supporters will be left wondering why they are now being asked to fork up more cash to see their team in action.

Tottenham will of course have their reasons, but no one likes to pay more money, and it is fair to say that this announcement will not have made Levy any more popular in North London.
