Tottenham and Daniel Levy could miss out on millions after FA update on Tuesday
Daniel Levy could miss out on millions in future earnings at Tottenham after an FA update on Tuesday (23 April).
Levy has shown his brilliance in recent years when it comes to generating revenue at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Spurs chairman continues to seek out lucrative opportunities in North London, with one of the club’s most recent announcements seeing Levy captalise on Ange Postecoglou’s Australian heritage.
Just days after their final Premier League game of the season against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane (19 May) Spurs will travel to Australia for a post-season tour, which includes a clash with Newcastle United at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday (22 May).
This is a decision which has not gone down well among those at the FA, nor England boss Gareth Southgate as he looks to get his squad ready for the UEFA European Championships in June, and as a result, action could be taken.
Daniel Levy and Tottenham could miss out on millions if the FA take action
As per The Times (23 April), “the FA is to look at changing the rules to ban clubs from staging lucrative friendlies beyond the end of the season”.
It is understood that the PFA has also raised concerns about the demands that will be placed on the players by the 21,000-mile round-trip which will need to be made just hours after the conclusion of their 38-game Premier League campaigns.
One action which could be taken is clubs being restricted from playing friendly matches between the end of the season and the beginning of July, a decision which likely wouldn’t go down well with Levy.
While it is understandable why Southgate and the FA would be concerned, Spurs and Newcastle will argue that this trip is important for the club’s finances.

Two Premier League sides playing at a 100,000-seater stadium is likely to attract a healthy crowd and the wonders the trip will do for both clubs’ global brand awareness means it is bound to be a very lucrative trip for all involved.
What is most concerning for Levy and Tottenham is the FA’s reported desire to prevent these post-season trips from taking place altogether.
Across five to ten years these kinds of trips could be worth a combined total of millions, and Levy will be left fuming if he is no longer able to schedule them into the Tottenham calendar.
