Stan Collymore blasts Tottenham over ‘simply outrageous’ financial development after behind-the-scenes decision
Stan Collymore is spot on with his criticism of Tottenham after a disgraceful financial development has emerged.
Spurs published their updated ticketing charter on 6 March, where they confirmed no new senior season tickets will be available from the 2025/26 season.
They claim the decision has been made after the number of OAP season tickets has risen four times the number that were previously held at White Hart Lane.
All currently held senior tickets will be unaffected next season and will have a 50 per cent discount applied before they are then reduced by 5 per cent each year up until the 2029/30 campaign, where it will be brought in line with the pricing for young adults
Collymore laid into the club for its stance on senior concessions in a tweet on Tuesday (12 March), highlighting that it’s come at a time when Spurs are in their wealthier-ever position.
He claimed that the “happy clappy best show on earth” is masking a lot of “simply outrageous greed” as he believes they are looking to deliberately squeeze fans out.
The pundit posted a further tweet on the matter on Wednesday (13 March), where he called on Lilywhites fans to back the Save Our Seniors Twitter page, which labelled the decision as “immoral, unethical and unnecessary”.
It is utterly disgraceful for Tottenham to treat their longest-serving supporters with such a lack of respect after the majority of them will have spent more than 60 years following the club.
That lifetime of service deserves some kind of reward but, instead, Daniel Levy and the board have turned their back on them despite the current cost-of-living crisis.
Spurs’ season tickets are currently amongst the most expensive in the Premier League, ranging from £803 per year for the cheapest adult seating available to £2,233 for the most expensive season ticket.
The Football Supporters’ Association didn’t take too kindly to the news, tweeting on 6 March that Spurs supporters ineligible for a senior ticket before next season will never get a reduced ticket, even if they live to 100.
It pointed out how the Lilywhites are now the eighth-richest club in the world after generating revenue of £549.2million last season [Evening Standard].
They earn more than £105million per year in match-day income and have also benefited from hosting music concerts, NFL and rugby matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The increased profits in recent years makes the decision over OAPs even more sickening, highlighting the fact that the club don’t really care about their most loyal supporters anymore.
This is another decision Levy seriously needs to give a rethink to avoid even more disconnect developing between the fans and the board.
In a world where everything seems to be becoming more expensive, it’s time for Spurs to do the right thing and give a little bit back.
In other Tottenham news, John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose believes a “great deal” is on the cards for one Spurs loanee this summer amid a £15million verdict.
