Oliver Glasner has emerged as a potential option to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham.

Tottenham are experiencing their worst-ever Premier League campaign, suffering their 21st defeat in the competition this season as they were beaten 2-0 by Aston Villa at Villa Park on Friday (16 May).

As a result, a host of names have been mooted as options to replace Postecoglou, and Crystal Palace boss Glasner has emerged as the favourite.

Now, Spurs' search has taken an abrupt turn with the Palace coach set for contract talks within the next few days.

Glasner to hold contract talks with Crystal Palace

It looks as though it will take a miracle for Postecoglou to remain at Tottenham next season.

According to The Sun (18 May), the Australian is expected to leave Tottenham this summer, no matter what happens in the UEFA Europa League final against Manchester United on Wednesday (21 May).

Glasner is the leading option to replace Postecoglou. However, it looks as though the Austrian could remain at Crystal Palace.

Tottenham have had an abysmal league campaign

As reported by Football Insider (20 May), the Croydon club and Glasner will hold talks in the coming weeks to discuss a contract renewal.

Glasner is keen to lead Palace in the UEFA Europa League, a competition which the Eagles qualified for by beating Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday (17 May) to secure the club's first-ever major honour.

Therefore, this could spell trouble for Daniel Levy, who might be left scrambling to find an alternative replacement if Postecoglou leaves Tottenham.

Tottenham must wait to make decision on Postecoglou

While it is tempting to search for Postecoglou replacements after a disastrous league season, Levy should hold out until after the Europa League final.

Postecoglou has not been dealt the fairest of hands with injuries this season, with Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison set to miss out on Wednesday.

However, if the Australian manages to lead Tottenham to their first trophy in 17 years despite the injury concerns, there may still be potential there. As a result, Tottenham would do well not to act hastily on this issue to avoid a repeat of this season happening in the next.
