In The Money: Daniel Levy masterclass as Tottenham overtake London rivals Chelsea amid £106.4m boost

Daniel Levy isn’t the most popular man in Tottenham at the best of times, but his stock among Spurs supporters will have certainly gone up after recent analysis by Deloitte.

Spurs don’t always lead the way in London on the pitch, currently sitting three points behind North London rivals Arsenal in the Premier League.

However, it is hard to deny that off the pitch, Levy is continuing to help the club make positive strides forward which could soon pay off in a big way.

This is especially evident after the latest edition of the Deloitte Football Money League was published.

In the 27th edition of the annual profile of the highest revenue-generating clubs in world football, it was revealed that revenues for the top 20 Money League clubs rose by 14% to a record £8.97billion.

Among that figure, commercial (£3.76billion) and matchday (£1.62billion) revenues were at an all-time high, and Spurs’ revenue rose accordingly in line with these upward trends.

Having finished ninth in the table the year before, Spurs moved up one position to eighth this time around and would have taken extra pleasure in doing this as they swapped places with London rivals Chelsea, which sees them lead the way in the capital with Arsenal in tenth position and West Ham down in eighteenth.

Tottenham’s revenue for the 2022/23 season rose by £106.4million, from £442.8million in the 2021/22 season to £549.2million a year later, an increase of 21 per cent.

Moving to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has boosted the club’s finances in a big way, with Spurs generating more matchday and commercial revenue than both Chelsea and Arsenal.

Tottenham

While this is of course all good news for Tottenham, fans of the club will now want to see this financial success translate to success on the pitch.

They now hold the title of London’s richest club, and with that position comes a sense of responsibility to back it up with footballing success.

Levy’s pragmatic approach has often frustrated fans, but in the long run, Tottenham stand to benefit from the chairman’s strategy.

If supporters are patient, and Levy acts accordingly, then Tottenham could be set for a very exciting few years ahead as they begin to spend all of the riches they are now earning.

In other Tottenham news, Levy will want “top-dollar” if one Spurs ace is to seal an exit from the club this month.
