In the Money: Daniel Levy has easy decision to make on Hugo Lloris, no-brainer will save Tottenham millions

Tottenham enjoyed a superb start to the new season under Ange Postecoglou, but things haven’t been so smooth in recent times.

The North London club have dropped to fifth place in the Premier League table thanks to three defeats in their last three outings despite going 10 unbeaten beforehand.

The club’s current injury crisis has certainly played a major factor in their recent struggles, but that situation has at least given game time to players who hadn’t previously featured much under Postecoglou.

But one Tottenham man who remains completely in the cold is goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who has yet to even make a matchday squad this season.

It has been a massive fall from grace for the veteran Frenchman, who has been replaced between the sticks by Guglielmo Vicario.

Fraser Forster and Brandon Austin meanwhile have been second and third choices respectively, with Lloris simply taking up both money and space in the squad.

Hugo Lloris looks dazed in goal for Tottenham.

As per The Athletic, the former Tottenham captain earns £100,000-per-week, and is eating up valuable funds that could be used on new players.

Given that the goalkeeper’s contract expires next summer, it certainly makes sense for Daniel Levy to do his utmost to force Lloris out in the January transfer window.

That proved hard to do in the summer transfer window despite interest from Saudi Arabia [The Times], but the man with the money in North London will not want to lose Lloris for nothing at the end of the season.

With just over four weeks remaining until the next window opens, Lloris will cost the club £400,000 in that period of time, with his outcast role not likely to change between now and then.

And if the 36-year-old stays at Tottenham from now all the way until the end of June, when his contract expires [Transfermarkt], he will cost Levy around £3million.

It makes more sense for Spurs to get accept a free transfer for Lloris, rather than taking that multi-million-pound hit.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou has an ideal Harry Kane replacement under his nose, the player could save the club millions.
