Daniel Levy paves way for Tottenham exit as investment talks begin

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has begun talks with MSP Sports Capital over possible new investment in the club, according to Paul O’Keefe.

The agent has posted on X to report that MSP, who has been heavily involved with Everton over the past year, could purchase up to 40 per cent of shares in Spurs, opening the door for a potential Levy exit down the line.

MSP have connections with several other clubs across Europe, and thus adding Spurs to that network could pay significant dividends if their initial potential share purchase eventually rises above 50 per cent.

Levy leads the ENIC International Limited group which owns 86.58 per cent of the club, thus selling almost half of that shareholding suggests that the 62-year-old could be on his way out eventually.

Daniel Levy lines up for Tottenham exit

Tottenham chairman Levy has been the figurehead of the Lilywhites since 2001, and at present is the longest-serving chairman of any club in the Premier League.

However, the fact that he is entertaining talks to sell such a sizeable stake in the club, similar to talks reported by Kieran Maguire on 11 April, points towards a future changing of the guard in North London.

Premier League rules could complicate matters for MSP, depending upon the actions they take with regards to Everton this summer.

The group loaned the Toffees £158million to be paid back by potential buyers 777 Partners, however, the latter’s failure to complete their takeover bid means MSP could step into the ownership breach at Goodison Park – though O’Keefe’s post represents a clear statement of intent to buy into Spurs instead.

If Levy’s ENIC Group do sell 40 per cent of their 86.58 per cent share of the club, they’ll become smaller shareholders overnight with just 46.58 per cent control of future proceedings.

With two large shareholders at play, neither of whom controls more than 50 per cent of the club, the signs suggest that to avoid any possible stalemate in the boardroom, Levy is beginning to break apart his majority ownership model of the club, paving the way for an amicable exit from his role.

Levy looks to be paving the way for his eventual exit in North London.
