Daniel Levy has '£100m on his mind' after Postecoglou sack news at Tottenham

Paul Robinson

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson played 175 times for Tottenham between 2004 and 2008, winning the League Cup with Spurs in the 2007/08 season. Since hanging up his gloves in 2017, Robinson has moved into the world of punditry and can be regularly seen or heard on Sky Sports and BBC Radio 5 Live. Tottenham News is now delighted to present Robinson as part of its team of experts.

Daniel Levy is under a lot of pressure to make the right call on Ange Postecoglou's future at Tottenham this summer.

Spurs ended a near two-decade-long wait for a trophy this season via the Europa League final, though their shortcomings domestically have done nothing but overshadow that success.

Postecoglou led his side to a 17th-placed finish in the Premier League, ending with a 4-1 home defeat by Brighton, their 22nd of the campaign.

Those failures have continued to pile the pressure on Postecoglou, but also Levy, who now must make one of the toughest decisions of his time at Tottenham.

Tottenham could pull the trigger on Postecoglou

Many thought Postecoglou would have been sacked by now, and had they not won the Europa League, he almost certainly would have been.

However, rumours are still emerging over his future in north London, with tension building between him and Levy, with Paul Robinson emphasising how difficult the current situation will be for the latter.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: "I think there's still a conversation to be had over his future. I really do.

"I can completely understand why you would be given an opportunity but you succeed in any warp of life, you succeed in any job, you get an opportunity to prove yourself at the next level and he's done what his remit was at the start of this season to get Champions League football and to get a trophy. No matter how he's done it, he's done that.

"But then the other side of that is Daniel Levy will have at the forefront of his mind about Erik Ten Hag at Man United. 90 minutes saved his job, 90 minutes got him £100million, and then he was sacked four months later. Daniel Levy will be conscious of that because the domestic campaign was so poor.

"I really do think there's a difficult decision for Daniel Levy to make. I don't think there'll be Tottenham fans disappointed if he goes, and I think there'll be Tottenham fans disappointed if he goes."

Postecoglou has no future at Tottenham

If Postecoglou stays, all it will take is a few bad results for the rumours to emerge again, and for people to question why he was allowed to remain in charge.

It's very hard to see a positive outcome if Postecoglou does stay at Tottenham, and Levy will be fully aware of that, though potentially reluctant to make such a big call.

This summer is going to be crucial for Tottenham, and they can't afford to waste any time pondering over the future of those at the club.
