Djed Spence developments ‘Crazy’ after Tottenham announcement v Frankfurt – ‘Wow’

Tottenham host Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie on Thursday.

Spurs defeated Southampton 3-1 in the Premier League last time out and consequently relegated the Saints, but the North London outfit still sit just 14th in the top flight amid a largely woeful campaign.

Ange Postecoglou is still under plenty of scrutiny and heaped pressure on himself when Tottenham suffered back-to-back defeats to London rivals Fulham and Chelsea.

While Spurs are struggling in the Premier League, their Europa League last-eight clash with Frankfurt is a priority for Postecoglou and Co.

Spurs fans question why Postecoglou has dropped Djed Spence

The Tottenham boss has not named Djed Spence in his lineup to take on Frankfurt, with Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie starting.

Spurs fans questioned the decision on X, with one user commenting: “No Spence is crazy but COYS,” while another supporter asked: “How is Spence not starting?”

Tottenham must beat Frankfurt in Europa league

The Europa League is Tottenham’s only chance of achieving success this season, as a top-half finish in the Premier League is seemingly beyond their reach.

Furthermore, Postecoglou’s side were knocked out of the FA Cup in the early phases of the competition before being well beaten in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final with Liverpool.

Amid a turbulent season, Spurs have already eyed Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola and Fulham’s Marco Silva as potential replacements for Postecoglou.

To save his job, the Australian may have to guide his side past Frankfurt and into the Europa League semi-finals, where the North London club could lock horns with either Norwegian side Bodo Glimt or Serie A outfit Lazio.

Frankfurt could prove to be tough opposition for Tottenham, though, largely thanks to the presence of prolific young striker Hugo Ekitike.

To progress to the semi-finals, Spurs may have to beat Frankfurt heavily in North London, as next week’s trip to Germany could prove difficult.
