Tottenham fans disagree over Europa League development

Tottenham Hotspur will face Bodo/Glimt in the last four of the Europa League after snatching a heard-earned away win in Frankfurt.

Dominic Solanke’s penalty and a spirited defensive performance combined to give Ange Postecoglou and the Spurs fans some desperately-needed respite and a huge shot at silverware.

The Lilywhites will take on the Norwegian underdogs across two legs in May, and must head north of the Arctic Circle to take on Bodo in the second leg.

Tottenham fans disagree over semi-final draw

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have gone so long without a feeling like they enjoyed on Thursday night against Eintracht Frankfurt, and anyone could see how much it meant at the final whistle.

The semi-final draw is mouthwatering for the Europa League this year, as Manchester United and Athletic Club lock horns in the adjacent tie.

With the final hosted in Bilbao next month and Man United offering the prospect of an all-English showdown, the incentive is even huger for Spurs and Postecoglou – who could change the entire feeling around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium by lifting the trophy.

However, Spurs fans online have disagreed over the complexity of the tie against Bodo, who unexpectedly knocked out Roman giants Lazio over two legs to reach the final four.

The Norwegians – who have only just begun their domestic season which is played over the summer, earning two wins out of two – have history with Postecoglou, having eliminated his Celtic side 5-1 on aggregate in the Conference League in 2022.

Some fans have described the tie as a given for Tottenham, one even calling a victory “guaranteed” and one assuring a Spurs and Athletic Club final in Bilbao.

Other supporters have taken a far more sensible and measured view, noting the obstacles in place for Spurs including having to wait for the second leg for their away contest, on an artificial pitch and in potentially freezing temperatures.

Bodo’s record against Postecoglou will also be drawn on as confidence – after all, the Australian often doesn’t budge in his attacking style of play. At least until it comes to a one-goal lead in Frankfurt, that is.

Spurs have massive trophy opportunity despite wretched season

This Europa League journey is off the scale in terms of magnitude for Tottenham, the fans and Postecoglou after the season they’ve endured and the pressure on their shoulders.

Spurs have regained their position as the bookmakers’ favourites to win the competition, priced at 13/8 with Paddy Power while Bodo/Glimt are 12/1 outsiders to triumph.

Athletic Club and Manchester United are extremely evenly poised heading into their semi-final, with United having scored three extra-time goals to produce an historic comeback against Lyon at Old Trafford.

Elsewhere, Rangers’ remarkable journey came to an end at the hands of the final’s hosts Athletic, who claimed a 2-0 aggregate victory to set up their tie with Ruben Amorim’s side.
